Gunfire Breaks Out in Samaguri constituency during a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally on Saturday, as gunfire injured two people, including a woman, who now hospitalized. The BJP MLA Jitu Goswami addressed the rally that took a violent turn after unidentified people started firing bullets that set off commotion and a law-and-order situation in the area.

The incident occurred when the rally proceeded towards the campaign site in Muri Puthikhaity. It was said that gunfire had been heard during the procession, and the situation became hotter as the incidences of vehicle vandalism and stone-pelting began from both sides. So, it was a charged atmosphere, with the BJP accusing the Congress of igniting the violence, and the Congress accusing the BJP of igniting the violence – and that’s how a political tussle has ignited the pre-poll environment in Samaguri.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned the violence and threw responsibility on Congress, alleging that it had tried to “sabotage and undermine our democratic process.” He criticized Congress, Congress and accused the party of trying “excessive measures” to hold on to its core vote bank within the minority community of the constituency. “The real question is, why has Congress stooped to such depths in this by-election? It’s not just fear of defeat but the desperation to hold on to their core vote bank that drives them to such extremes,” he added in his remarks.

Congress leaders, meanwhile, have countered the accusations. Congress leader Rakibul Hussain visited the site and claimed that Congress workers were the target of the gunfire, resulting in two injuries. He alleged that Imam Uddin, who sustained bullet injuries, was forcibly taken to the hospital by police.

The BJP, however, accused Imam of being the instigator of the gunfire. According to Hussain, Nagaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Swapnaneel Deka identified Imam as the primary suspect. A local news channel also reported that Imam may have brought in people from Dhubri to incite violence in Samaguri.

Imamโ€™s father, Ismail Hussain, offered a different perspective, claiming that BJP supporters had provoked Congress workers during the rally. Ismail alleged that BJP leaders Jitu Goswami and Suresh Borah ordered the gunfire when he attempted to intervene, targeting him, but his son Imam stepped in and shot instead.

In addition to this incident, tensions heightened by a separate event involving the abduction of independent candidate Musabbir Ali Ahmed from his residence. Ahmed found unconscious by the roadside several hours later and is now receiving treatment in a hospital.

The ongoing violence has created a sense of fear among voters in Samaguri ahead of the November 13 by-polls. Earlier clashes between political parties reportedly led to the death of one BJP worker and left several others, including journalists, injured. Authorities are now investigating the recent incidents and working to maintain peace in the area as the by-election date approaches.
