On the late night of November 2, 2024 Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted a raid along with Zoo road, Guwahati, which leads to the sealed popular ‘Grilled Panda’ restaurant.
According to some information, The GMC sealed the restaurant, citing issues with missing licenses and health code violations.
According to Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) reports, ‘Grilled Panda’ Restaurant had been in operating for years without the required permits, allegedly preparing food in unsanitary outdoor conditions that did not meet municipal health standards. Officials highlighted that the restaurantโs kitchen did not meet health standards.
Adding to it, an investigation revealed that ‘Grilled Panda’ had been running with only a minimal general license costing Rs 1,400, which is reportedly insufficient for a restaurant of its scale. GMC officials pointed out that the business required more robust documentation and licensing to operate legally.
The GMCโs announced that its inspection will soon extend to other nearby food vendors and street stalls. Many of which reported to lack proper permits as well. Officials said that these roadside food stall stands operate without GMCโs approval, posing potential health risks to the public.
Following the raid and sealed, the owner of ‘Grilled Panda’ publicly criticized the GMCโs actions, by describing them as unfair and calling the action a targeted conspiracy. While acknowledging some documentation issues, he expressed frustration that his restaurant was seemingly singled out, while similar establishments nearby went unchecked.
