At least 9 people died after multiple vehicle falls into river when 43 years old Gambhira Bridge Collapse in Vadodara, Gujarat on July 9 morning. Nine people were also rescued. In the incident, four vehicles — including two trucks and a Bolero — plunged into the river while crossing the bridge.
The Gambhira Bridge connected Mujpur to Gambihra as well as Central Gujarat to Saurashtra, located in Mujpur in Padra takula of the Vadodara district.

The incident took place around 7:30 am when two trucks and two vans fell into the river, according to Padra Police Inspector Vijay Charan.
Rescue operations were promptly launched with the help of teams from the Vadodara fire department and local residents, and efforts were still ongoing, officials said.
Additionally, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, equipped with rescue gear, was dispatched to the site to assist in the operation.
The 900-metre-long Gambhira bridge, which connects Gujarat’s Vadodara and Anand districts, has 23 piers and was inaugurated in 1985.
Anil Dhameliya, District Collector, Vadodara stated that the part of the river where accident took place is not deepest and rescue operation is going on.
Ex Gratia for Gujarat Bridge Collapsed accident affected people
PM Narendra Modi stated, “The loss of lives due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district, Gujarat, is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM”
Gujarat CM Bhupendr Patel stated, “The collapse of a span of the Gambhira Bridge, connecting Anand and Vadodara, has caused an accident that is deeply distressing to the heart. The state government stands with full compassion alongside every family affected by this tragedy. The state government will provide assistance of 4 lakh rupees to the heirs of each person who lost their life in the accident. Additionally, each person injured in the accident will receive assistance of 50,000 rupees, and all treatment arrangements will also be provided by the state government.”
