Eid al-Fitr 2025: Eid al-Fitr is celebrated in the end of Ramadan, known as Ramzan month. Ramadan month is known as the holy month for Muslims community. This year Ramzan Month started from 2 March and will end on March 31.

During this holy month, devout Muslims observe Roza (fasting) for 29 or 30 days, based on the lunar cycle.

South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh Muslims community usually start Ramadan a day later than the Middle East and Western nations. They will look for the crescent moon on March 30, 2025, which marks the 29th day of Ramadan 1446 AH.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2025 in India?

According to central government’s holiday calendar Eid 2025 or Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be celebrated on Monday, March 31 and it is a gazetted holiday in the country. However, the exact date will depend on the sighting of the crescent moon.

India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will look for the new moon on the evening of March 30, 2025, which is the 29th day of Ramadan 1446 AH. If the moon is seen after Maghrib prayers, Eid will be on March 31. If not, Ramadan will continue for 30 days, and Eid will be on April 1, 2025.

Eid 2025 Celebrations

Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most important festival of Muslims worldwide. The festival is also known as Festival of Breaking the Fast. Eid-ul-Fitr is the end of the Ramzan month, the holy month of fasting. During the festival people express gratitude, joy and togetherness. It is a day when Muslims express their thankfulness to Allah for giving them the strength to complete the month-long fast.

How did the festival celebrate?

The Eid celebration begins after the sighting of the new moon, signaling the end of Ramadan.

On Eid morning, Muslims gather in mosques or open grounds for the special Eid prayer (Salat al-Eid), which is followed by a sermon.

Before the prayers, Muslims give a mandatory charity known as Zakat al-Fitr to help the less fortunate celebrate Eid.

People wear new or their best clothes as a sign of joy and gratitude.

A grand meal is prepared, featuring special dishes such as biryani, kebabs, and traditional sweets like sheer khurma and seviyan.

Families and friends visit each other, exchange greetings of “Eid Mubarak,” and share gifts, especially with children.

Many people visit orphanages, hospitals, and shelters to share their happiness with those in need.
