A suspected beef smuggler arrested in Dhubri on Friday morning after police intercepted a scooty carrying beef.
Based on tip off, a team of Dhubri police launched an operation under the jurisdiction Gauripur Police near the under construction National 127B. During the operation, officers noticed a two-wheeler with West Bengal number plate (WB-63D-0084) heading towards Gauripur. When signaled to stop, the rider tried to escape but was caught after a short chase.
The officer became suspicious of the vehicle when he noticed the registration number of the vehicle is of West Bengal. Police recovered brief suit with 30 kg of raw beef. Police seized the recovered meat and arrested the individual.

The arrested individual identified as Nazmal Miah, a residents of Toofanganj in West Bengal. Police say this case is part of a rising trend of beef smuggling along the Assam-West Bengal border. Smugglers often bring beef into Assam by using hidden routes and vehicles with registration numbers from other states to avoid being caught.
Further investigation is going on. Officer-in-charge of Balajan Police Station, Uttam Roy stated investigation is going on to trace other involved in the smuggling.
