In a devastating incident at Delhi renowned Kalkaji Mandir, one woman lost her life, and 17 others sustained injuries during a Mata Jagran. The mishap occurred in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when a platform, constructed with wood and an iron frame, collapsed, as reported by news agency ANI citing the Delhi Police

Fatal Incident Unfolds: Platform Collapse During Mata Jagran in Delhi Kalkaji Mandir

According to the police and visuals shared by the news agency. An elevated platform near the main stage meant for seating organizers’ families and VIPs gave way. The tragedy unfolded around 12:30 am when enthusiastic devotees climbed onto the stage during hymns. Which leading to the collapse due to the excess weight. Individuals seated below the platform also suffered injuries, as stated by the police.

Event Held Without Permission at Delhi Kalkaji Mandir

The police revealed that no permission had been granted for the event. This event attracted a gathering of approximately 1500-1600 people participating in the overnight awakening (jagran) of Goddess Durga. Despite the absence of official authorization, sufficient staff was deployed to maintain law and order during the Hindu ritual at the temple’s Mahant Parisar.

Police Response and Investigation Underway

Upon receiving a call at 12:30 am, police teams rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, one woman was declared dead. A senior police officer stated, “We received a call about 12.30 a.m. informing us that a stage erected up for ‘jagran’ purposes at Kalkaji Temple had fallen. One woman was found dead. Further inquiry is ongoing.” according to news agency PTI.

B Praak Expresses Grief: Singer Highlights Event Management’s Crucial Role

Singer B Praak, present at the event, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In an Instagram story video, he emphasized the crucial role of event management. Praak stated, “This is the first time I’ve witnessed something like this, and I’m really saddened. What happened while I was singing at Kalkaji Mandir was very bad.”

Investigation Continues: Legal Action Against Organizers

The city police’s crime team visited the accident site, and injured individuals were admitted to various hospitals, including AIIMS Trauma Centre and Safdarjung Hospital. All injured persons are reported to be in stable condition, with a few suffering fractures. A case under sections 337/304A/188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the event organizers, as confirmed by the police.
