Daund–Pune Train Fire: A minor fire incident was reported on June 16 aboard Train No. 71404 (Daund–Pune DEMU) near Yevat when smoke was seen coming from coach CR 178378. Railway officials confirmed that the smoke originated from an individual allegedly burning paper or bidi inside the train’s toilet.
The incident took place at around 8 am.
The person, who had locked himself inside the toilet, did not respond to calls. There was no short circuit involved. In a swift response, railway staff and a pointsman broke open the window to rescue the individual and handed him over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). No passengers were harmed, and the train resumed service after safety checks.
Investigations revealed the man was mentally unstable. He has since been taken into custody, and the matter is under further investigation by state police.
Pune Division commended the railway staff for their quick action, reaffirming their commitment to passenger safety.
