In a major crackdown on theft and rising robbery, Cachar police launched late night operation across the district, in which they successfully arrested 38 thieves.
According to information, Cachar police launched late night operation on Monday, July 28. Acting on numerous complaints from residents, police teams launched a district-wide operation and recovered a massive quantity of stolen items and also arrested 38 thieves.
Among the recovered items were bikes, gold ornaments, electric wires, TVs, fans, pressure cookers, utensils, batteries, motors, and other household goods.
Speaking about the operation, Cachar’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, said,
“Robbery cases have seen a sharp rise recently. Based on public complaints, we launched a planned raid late Monday night. Five police teams were deployed across various parts of the district. As a result, 38 thieves were apprehended in a single night.”

He added that some of the arrested were bike lifters, while others were involved in stealing electronic and household items. “Many of the accused are drug addicts. They’ve been sent for medical evaluation,” Mahatta informed.
All the arrested individuals were taken to Silchar Sadar Police Station on Tuesday morning. Following legal formalities and medical checks, they were presented before the court and sent to jail.
SSP Mahatta emphasized that the district police will continue such proactive operations to safeguard public safety.
“Cachar police are committed to eradicating theft and anti-social activities. We’ll persist with more such actions to maintain law and order,” he said.
