The twin engine turboprop plane was flying from Cascavel in Paraná to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo when it crashed in the town of Vinhedo, according to Voepass airline.
The plane was carrying 57 passenger and 4 Crew members, Voepass Linhas Aéreas said. The plane crashed in the residential area in Venhedo area.
One woman in Vinhedo, Brazil told CNN, “I heard a very loud noise, very close to me. I thought it was a drone. I looked up to the sky and saw the plane spinning.”
Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 shows that the plane dropped about 17,000 feet in just one minute.
The Brazilian Air Force will investigate the cause of Friday’s deadly plane crash, according to Vinhedo City Hall.
Vinhedo City Hall mentioned that it has been at the crash site, helping other emergency responders, and is waiting for the Air Force team to arrive, which will lead the investigation.
“The fire and major risks are now under control. Our main goal was to ensure everyone’s safety and care for any victims, with Santa Casa de Vinhedo, Santa Casa de Valinhos, and Hospital Galileo ready to provide full support,” the statement said.
The body of the victims will be taken to the Legal Medical Institute in Campinas.
City Officials said that a house in a local condo complex was damaged when the plane crashed into its backyard. None of the residents were injured.
