The 7th Deputy Prime Minister and one of the Co-founders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) LK Advani has conferred with the Bharat Ratna, Indiaโ€™s highest civilian award. His full name is Lal Krishna Advani. He was the one leader who brought the party into the national spotlight by leading a procession for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya during the early 1990s. Today, 3 January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced it via. X.

 He posted by stating, โ€œI am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour. One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumentalโ€. He also added, โ€œHis is a life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister. He distinguished himself as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His Parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights.โ€

Also said, โ€œAdvani Jiโ€™s decades-long service in public life has been marked by an unwavering commitment to transparency and integrity, setting an exemplary standard in political ethics. He has made unparalleled efforts towards furthering national unity and cultural resurgence. The conferring of the Bharat Ratna on him is a very emotional moment for me. I will always consider it my privilege that I got countless opportunities to interact with him and learn from him.โ€

Who is Lal Krishna Advani?

Lal Krishna Advani was born in Karachi and the partition of Pakistan he migrated to India. He then settled down in Bombay. He is also a one of the members of RSS. In the year of 1941 he joined the RSS at the age of fourteen.

In 1951 he joined the BJP party which founded by Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He was the one of the founding member of the party. He served as the president of the BJP for three times. The BJP Party was the political precursor to the BJP.

Advani began his parliamentary slint in 1970 when he become the member of the Rajya Sabha for the first time. He contest his first Lok Sabha election in 1989 from New Delhi by defeating Mohini Giri.

In the year 1991, he contested from two constituencies where he won both. One constituency was Gandhi Nagar in Gujrat and another was New Delhi.

When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Prime Minister in 1999, Advani served as the mister of Home Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister.

Advani fought his last election in 2014 from Gandhi Nagar in Gujrat.

In 2015 Lal Krishna Advani conferred with the Padma Vibhushan which marked as the second highest civilian award.

In 1990, LK Advani led a journey called Ram Rath Yatra to support the BJP’s request for building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The journey started in Somnath, Gujarat, and ended in Ayodhya, gaining widespread public support. Following this, in the 1991 general elections, the BJP, which was previously a minor player in national politics, became the second-largest party in the parliament, right after the Congress.

Advani, known for his strong views within the BJP, had to quit when his name got linked to the Hawala diaries.

Despite being aligned with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ideology, he faced criticism from the Sangh Parivar after praising Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, during his visit to the country in 2005. Born in Karachi himself, this controversy led to Advani stepping down as the president of the BJP.
