A serious case of alleged misbehave with woman, abuse of authority and misuse of company resources has surfaced from an infrastructure project site in Silchar, Assam. A Bengal based project manager, Engineer Sanjit Mukherjee appointed by a private company for the “Axom Mala” infrastructure project, accused of Assault.
As per company worker, Mukherjee joined the company on March 31, 2025 and reported to the project site on April 1, 2025. He was provided with a guest house near the construction camp and a Scorpio S11 vehicle to carry out site inspections.
However, shortly after joining, disturbing changes in his behavior were noticed. He allegedly threatened workers, claiming that anyone disobeying his orders would be fired, and warned sub-contractors to follow his instructions or face termination. He also demanded a 3% commission from each subcontractor’s bill.
On a day when the site, scheduled to be inspected by local authorities and government officials, Mukherjee refused to appear, citing chest pain — though colleagues suspect this was a fabricated excuse.
A Most Shocking Incident of Misbehave with woman took place
The most shocking incident reportedly took place around May 10–12, 2025. Mukherjee allegedly offered money to a female cleaner at the camp in exchange for favors. When she refused, he accused of attempting to assault her during a call for room service. The victim managed to escape and reported the matter to her colleagues.
After the incident came to light, Mukherjee tried to flee the camp during the night but was caught by local residents at Dolu Bazar, where a confrontation ensued and he sustained injuries. The company’s head office was alerted, and he was rescued and moved to Silchar on May 20, 2025, for safety reasons.
A National media reported that, “Three engineers from Bengal, allegedly held hostage by their employers in Assam’s Silchar for refusing to compromise on construction quality, had to be rescued by police of the neighbouring state in the last week of May.
The engineers were working under a private construction company contracted for the Assam government’s road infrastructure project “Asom Mala”.”
Company Attempted to keep the Axom Mala Project Manager sexual harassment case confidential
Initially, the company attempted to keep the sexual harassment case confidential to protect its reputation and that of its employees. However, due to the seriousness of the allegations, the company has now made the issue public.
The National media also reported that, “The complaint prompted Krishnanagar police to immediately coordinate with their counterparts in Silchar. Silchar police conducted a raid and rescued the three engineers — project manager Sandip Mukherjee from Krishnanagar, along with his colleagues Joy Banerjee from Cooch Behar and Bholanath Maiti from Bankura — within an hour of the wife’s complaint.”
But other company worker stated that, “A Deputy Manager also from West Bengal but he also still working in the company and does not have problem.” They also stated that “Sanjit Mukherjee telecast that We beat and kidnapped Joy Banerjee and Ajay Prakash, but they are still working.”
They also added that they did not filed a complained because a woman was involved in this case and also company reputation.
It was also revealed that Mukherjee forcibly sent around 18 workers on leave, allegedly under the pretext of family issues, which was later suspected to be part of a deliberate plan to exploit the cleaner when fewer people were present at the camp.
This incident has sparked outrage, especially since Mukherjee hails from West Bengal and was working in Assam on behalf of a reputed private firm. The case has brought shame and anger to both the company and the public in Assam and West Bengal.
