The Cyclone Remal has made a landfall in West Bengal and Northeastern state of India. The IMD has also gave red alert for heavy rainfall in Northeast state of India. The Cyclone Remal has ended but the weather condition remains rainy as even now yellow, orange and red alert has given by the IMD for the northeast state. Mizoram has witnessed several landslides after cyclone made a landfall. According to reports at least 28 people has died after landslide. The death toll may be rise as because the rescue operation is till going on.
14 has been died in a Methum Quarry collapse while other 14 people has reported died from the different parts of Mizoram which have witnessed landslide.
In Salem a landslide took place where a family of three killed. There have been also reported death due to landslide in Falkawn, Kanan, Kulikawn and ITI area of Aizawl, Mizoram. In response to the incident the disaster management response team has immediately initiated rescue operation in the landslide witnessed area. The paramilitary forces, members of the Yong Mizo Association as well as local volunteers also joint with the disaster management response team in the rescue operation.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced Ex-Gratia
The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Mizoram, confirmed, โCyclone Remal has claimed 27 lives in Aizawl district following landslides. Electricity and water supply will be stifled due to damage of infrastructure. Mizoram CM has announced โน15 crore for State Disaster Relief Fund. โน4 lakh announced as ex-gratia to the kin of deceased.โ
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced Rs. 4 Lakh as ex-gratia for the families who lost a member in the landslide. He also announced Rs.15 Crore for State Disaster Relief Management.
Aizawl has been cut with rest of the country due to landslide on National High way 6 at Hunthar. Several highways and key road also stop because of the landslide.
The CM Lalduhoma, Minister Sapdanga and other government officials is overseeing the situation. The Power and Electricity (P&E) and Public Health engineering (PHE) departments have warned of electricity and water supply. As the Supply of electricity and water has been disrupted because of landslide.
The Rescue operation is still going on. In response to the urgent need the local Young Mizo Association has called the locals for a community clean up at the affected areas.
