An accused of Dhing Gang-rape case has died after falling into a pond and drowned while trying to escape from police. Police recovered the dead body from local pond.
On 22 August, a 14 years-old of class 10 girl gang raped by three men in Dhing, Nagaon where she was rescued by locals in semi-conscious staged near pond. The locals then called the police who come recovered her and sent her in hospital. The incident took place when she was returning from tuition at around 6 pm.
On 23 huge protest staged by the people of Dhing and demand for justice. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma assured that the accused will not spare. He also asked DGP GP Singh to visit the site and ensure swift action.
Two suspected accused of Dhing Gang-rape has arrested, one of them is Tafazul Islam. He was the prime accused of the case. Today, August 24, he tried to escape from police custody at 4 am by jumping into the pond during investigation. The police had taken him to the crime scene for enquiry but he tried to escape. Search operation launched immediately where the police called SDRF team. But, After two hours later his dead body was recovered.
Nagaon SP Swapnaneel Deka said, “The accused was taken to the crime scene when he pulled away from the official and fell into a pond. We quickly secured the area and called in the SDRF. Unfortunately, his body was found later.”
He also confirmed that a police constable was injured during the escape attempt. Deka said, “Even though we responded quickly, it was dark and visibility was poor. The suspect managed to escape for a short time before being found in the pond.”
