Assam woman Burnt Alive: On Sunday night a shocking incident took place in Tezpur, Assam. A woman 30 years was reportedly set on fire alive in front of her two children, Assam. The incident occurred in Bahbari village under the jurisdiction of the Tezpur police station. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Sangeeta Kati, fatally injured. Police have arested six individuals in connection with the horrifying crime.

The police reported that family members of the deceased’s neighbour, Suraj Baghwar, along with four accomplices, allegedly assaulted Sangeeta with a sharp weapon. After this they set her ablaze. Shockingly, they also tied up Sangeeta’s husband before carrying out the brutal attack. Despite rushed to a local government hospital, Sangeeta succumbed to her injuries. This incident cause panic in the entire area.

Police Investigation and Detentions

“The woman was set on fire by a group of individuals of the same village. Six individuals have arrested in connection with the case. We are currently interrogationing them and the investigation is ongoing. We are exploring the possibility if she was killed based on suspicions of practicing witchcraft or any other things,” stated Superintendent of Police Susanta Biswa Sarma.

Arrested Individuals and Police Response on Assam woman Burnt Alive

The arrested individuals, identified as Ajay Sanghar, Dhiraj Bhaguwar, Suraj Bhaguwar, Pinku Malhar, Baila Sanghar, and Babul Nagdhar. The all accused aged between 30 and 35, were reportedly in an inebriated state during the attack. They face charges of murder, forcibly confining, and torturing a woman. The police will also considering additional charges as the investigation progresses. The suspects will produced before the court soon.

Medical Examination and Lack of Awareness

Following the tragic incident, Sangeeta’s body was sent to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) for a post-mortem examination, and a report is awaited. Disturbingly, efforts to raise awareness against superstition in this inland area seem lacking, with no reported initiatives from non-governmental organizations or volunteer groups to educate the local population.
