A Woman named Mainao Brahma from Baksha district of Assam arrested by security forces from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. She was accused of amassing nearly Rs 100 crore through fraud trading scheme scam in Assam.
According to reports, she was arrested in a joint operation conducted by Borjhar and Baksa Police on Thursday morning in Assam trading scam.
Some sources revealed that Barhma had been hiding in New Delhi after the scam came into fore. She arrested upon her arrival at Guwahati Airport based on a directive from Borjhar Officer-in-Charge Sanjeev Handique.
The case emerged when several victims logged complaints with Mushalpur police, accusing Brahma of deceiving them into investigating large sums of money with promise of irregular returns.
The people, who were mostly innocent villagers, said they gave money to Brahma. As she told them she would use the money to trade and promised them a small amount of money every month.
One of the victim said, “She presented her scheme as a business, claiming she would trade with our money and pay us back with a small profit. We trusted her with everything we had, but now we know it was all a scam.”
Another victim said, “She had nothing when she started, but now the amount is estimated to be close to Rs 100 crore.”
The villagers also stated that Mainao Brahma and her husband did not have known source of income but purchased luxury car, land and other assets.
When the investors demanded their money back, she allegedly cited that business losses and refused to return the funds, disappearing shortly.
Now Brahma is in the custody of police. Further investigation is going on to uncover more details about the scam.
