Rohit Chanda, a student of the Library Science Department of Assam University, Silchar and the General secretary of the University Students’ Union, left his Dudh Patil house at around 11 am yesterday (July 18) and did not return and now missing. He did not take his mobile phone, scooter etc. with him when he left.
He is also State Joint Secretary at ABVP Assam.
The sudden disappearance of Rohit Chanda, a student of Assam University and a prominent leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), has sparked major concern across academic and public circles in Silchar.
Rohit’s missing has raised alarm among student of Assam and university staff, while his family has circulated his photo on social media, urging the public to come forward with any information on his whereabouts.
Rohit Chanda, a Library Science student at Assam University and the ad-hoc secretary of the student union, who had been missing since July 17, has been found safe on July 19, near Tarapur Mazumder Bazaar.
According to reports, Rohit mysterious vanishing act comes in the wake of unverified allegations linking him to an admission scam at Gurucharan College.
Sources indicate that informal complaints about admission-related irregularities involving Rohit and a few associates were brought to the attention of Cachar Police. However, no formal proceedings were initiated, with the matter reportedly being “settled” internally.
Chanda disappeared just days after these allegations surfaced, prompting suspicions and triggering a full-scale search by authorities.
So far, there is no solid evidence directly connecting Rohit to any misconduct. Police are exploring several leads in the investigation and have appealed to the public for any information that might help trace his whereabouts.
