After 48 hours of the incident Cachar police managed to arrested the accused Faruk Ahmed, who allegedly molest a 14 years old girl, at the Law Department of Assam University, on Sunday police stated.
According to reports, Faruk Ahmed (57) a non-teaching staff of Assam University, Silchar has been escaped after allegedly committing the crime on January 31. Cachar police, with assistance of his family traced his location and managed to trapped and arrest him. On Sunday morning, Cachar Police SP Numal Mahatta confirmed about the arrested of the accused.
SP Numal Mahatta stated, โHe was arrested near ISBT in Ramnagar area of Silchar in the wee hours after search operation.โ He also said that the university authorities were informed, and steps were taken to quickly arrest the accused.
Assam University has suspended the accused from the job.
A case has been filed at Dwarbond Police Station under Case No. 6/2025. It includes Sections 75(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 12 of the POCSO Act.
According to the complaint, the victim went to the Law Department of Assam University on Friday accompanying a relative who works there. When she was found alone Ahmed dragged her to the toilet of the department and tried to undress the victim there.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, authorities are closely watching the investigation. Meanwhile, the universityโs Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has started its own inquiry.
The arrest has raised concerns about campus safety and the universityโs responsibility to protect students.
