A professor of Assam University has been detained on charges of Sexual Assault on August 14. The professor has identified as Biswajit Das, professor of Law Department in Assam University, Silchar.
This incident came into light when an FIR logged against the professor on 13th August by a female student of law at Assam University Police Outpost. The female student was a 6th sem, BB.A.LL.B (Hons) student.

According to FIR, the incident took place on 10 August. On that day she had a semester exam and the accused professor was a invigilator in examination hall. When she was submitting the paper, the professor has offered a sweet box and asked her to wait outside. Later, he came out of the hall and handed her the key of cabin and said to wait in the cabin. She accordingly waited, after few hours he came and starting talking with student.
During the conversation, the professor made inappropriate and offensive comments about the student’s appearance while holding her hand. Her parents, who were on a phone call with the student at the time, reportedly overheard and recorded the conversation.
He is also accused of making inappropriate offers, saying he would make her the top student and give her other academic advantages if she agreed to his demands.
The student also claimed that the professor became forceful, trying to touch her inappropriately and locking the cabin door.
Feeling scared, she pretended to go along with his requests to get away and quickly escaped the cabin.
She also said this was not the first time the professor had done something like this.
Protest by the Student ofAssam University, Silchar
On August 14, the University Student also stage protest from the morning in front of main gate of Assam University. According to the student no action has taken against the professor, so, they staged the protest. President of the Student’s Union of Assam University, state that this kind of incidents has already occurred before in the campus but no strict action has taken. But now considering the case of Kolkata Rape and murder incident of doctor that took place a few days ago, the President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary and the overall student are strongly urging to take actions against the professor quickly.
