Assam Special Task Force (STF) arrested a terrorist linked to jihadi outfits AI-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) on Monday.
The arrested terrorist identified as 35 year old Gazi Rahman of Bhodeyaguri area in Kokrajhar district of Assam.
In an press release the STF stated, โAs part of Operation Praghat, launched by the STF, Assam, a significant breakthrough has been achieved in the ongoing investigation of STF PS Case No. 21/2024. The absconding prime accused, Gazi Rahman (35 years)of Kokrajhar District, was apprehended by a team of the Special Task Force (STF), Assam, with the assistance of Kokrajhar Police.โ
This development follows a series of arrests under the ongoing operation. On December 27, the Special Task Force (STF) apprehended 36-year-old Shahinur Islam from Dhubri district. The arrest occurred during a raid in Bandhabpara, Bilasipara, where officials recovered incriminating materials. Including books in Urdu, personal identification documents, and electronic devices.
Assam STF operation resulted in the arrest of total 12 Jihadi cadres of ABT and AQIS from Assam, West Bengal and Kerala.
Earlier on Dember 24, an operation conducted in the Namapara area of Kokrajhar, the STF successfully foiled a potential terror attack linked to a global terrorist organization. The operation was led by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS in which two suspects, Abdul Zaher Sheikh and Sabbir Mirdha. During the operation, officials seized an arsenal of weapons, explosives and materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
