The Assam government has introduced a cashless medical treatment facility for its employees, pensioners, and their dependents under the flagship Ayushman Asom Mukhya Mantri Lok Sevak Arogya Yojana (AA-MMLSAY).
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially launched the upgraded scheme on October 29, allowing beneficiaries to receive cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals within Assam and at top corporate hospitals across India.
Earlier, the scheme, launched in 2023, functioned solely through a reimbursement model. With the new update, beneficiaries can now access medical care without the financial burden of upfront payments.
“Employees and pensioners can now avail treatment without worrying about arranging funds. To ensure a seamless transition, the reimbursement system will continue alongside the new cashless facility,” CM Sarma stated.

So far, 2,23,826 employees and 6,172 pensioners have registered under AA-MMLSAY. The government has already reimbursed Rs 65 crore since its inception — a sharp rise from the earlier annual medical expenditure of Rs 17–18 crore, reflecting the program’s expansion and efficiency.
Unlike the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana, which is centrally funded, the AA-MMLSAY is a self-sustaining state initiative, financed through contributions from employees. The Chief Minister projected that the scheme could eventually benefit 7–8 lakh people in the state. Additionally, CM Sarma announced plans to set up Assam’s own Pay Commission, ensuring that state government employees receive benefits simultaneously with their central counterparts.
