Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced a major government recruitment initiative, declaring that the state will launch a mega recruitment drive on October 10 to appoint 40,000 youth across multiple departments.
The announcement was made during a ceremonial program where appointment letters were distributed to 481 new recruits in the veterinary, tourism and education departments.
“After fulfilling our promise of providing over one lakh government jobs, we are now moving ahead with the goal of completing 1.60 lakh recruitments by October 10 through a transparent and merit-based process,” CM Sarma said.
At the event, the newly appointed personnel included:
- 443 Veterinary Field Assistants
- 12 Tourism Development Officers
- 23 Lecturers for DIETs
- 3 Assistant Directors in SCERT
Assam Boost to Animal Husbandry and Rural Economy
Highlighting the importance of animal husbandry, the Chief Minister noted Assam’s underperformance in the dairy sector despite its potential. To address this, the state is collaborating with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to set up North East Dairy and Foods Limited, which will process up to 10 lakh litres of milk daily.

Supporting infrastructure, such as high-capacity milk processing plants, is being developed in Dhemaji, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Cachar and Guwahati. Additionally, AMUL is establishing a new dairy plant in Rani.
Sarma also encouraged poultry and duck farming, noting that Assam currently imports a significant amount of eggs. He emphasized that if 1,000 local entrepreneurs step forward, the state can produce one crore eggs daily within three years.
Push for Renewable Energy and Local Produce
The Chief Minister stressed the need for biogas and bio-CNG production from cattle dung and promoted local pork production to strengthen the rural economy.
Unlocking Tourism and Educational Growth
Addressing new recruits in the tourism sector, Sarma urged them to explore Assam’s vast tourism potential. He proudly stated that Kaziranga National Park now ranks third in India for tourist footfall, a testament to the state’s growing appeal.
On education, he reiterated the state government’s ongoing commitment to hiring trained and qualified teachers and enhancing the academic infrastructure of Assam.
