The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) district office at Indira Bhavan, Sribhumi, remained closed on Tuesday, May 20. After a viral video that has triggered a political storm. The video allegedly shows a cash-for-ticket transaction involving a senior Congress leader and an election ticket aspirant.

Sources say the controversy centers on an alleged ₹4 lakh bribe reportedly paid by Achan Choudhury, a denied aspirant for the Lakhimpur Zila Parishad seat, to Assam Pradesh Congress General Secretary Aminur Rashid Choudhury in exchange for a party nomination.

The bribe allegedly captured in a viral video, accompanied with leaked audio recordings of phone calls in which Achan Choudhury can heard requesting a refund after denying the ticket.

According to Choudhury, despite multiple attempts, he has been unable to retrieve his money or make further contact with the Congress leader. With no communication from party officials, he has now formally lodged a complaint against Aminur Rashid Choudhury, escalating the issue further.

In what appears to be an internal fallout from the scandal, the Congress district office at Indira Bhavan remained shut the entire day on Tuesday, signaling unrest and potential crisis management within the party ranks.

Assam Congress Office, Congress Leaders Demand Stern Action against the bribery scandal

Reacting to the viral scandal, Sribhumi District Congress General Secretary Subrata Dev voiced serious concern over the matter. He urged the Assam Pradesh Congress to take swift action:

“If stern measures are not taken against those responsible, it could seriously demoralize party workers at the grassroots level.”

As the video continues to circulate widely online, public outrage is mounting, raising questions about transparency and ethical conduct within political parties, especially during election ticket distributions.
