Assam Coal Mine Accident: 3 workers died and several left trapped, Rescue operation is going on

Three workers of among the trapped workers confirmed dead on January 7 in the Coal Mine Accident at Umrangsu, Assam. The bodies of the dead worker found floating in the flooded mine, recovery operation is still going on.

According to reports, 9 mine workers trapped inside the coal mine over 26 hours in 3 kilo, Kalamati Umrangsu in Dima Hasao district of Assam.

It has been reported that 42 workers went inside the ill-fated illegal rat hole coal mine named Asom Quarry in Kalamati. Among them 9 trapped. Today, 3 workers found floating the coal mine. Recovery operation is going on.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated via. social media, โ€œDistressing news from Umrangshu, where laborers are trapped in a coal mine. The exact number and status are yet unknown. The DC, SP, and my colleague, Shri Kaushik Rai, are rushing to the site. Praying to God for everyoneโ€™s safety.โ€

He also stated, โ€œWe have requested the Armyโ€™s assistance in the ongoing rescue operation. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are also on their way to the incident site to aid in the efforts.โ€

He also added, “Navy deep divers have been requisitioned to assist in the rescue operation. The water level inside the mine has risen to nearly 100 feet, according to the assessment by the stationed team. The divers are flying in from Visakhapatnam and are expected to arrive soon.”

Assam Coal Mine Accident

On January 6, at around 8 am the coal mine workers trapped 300 feet below inside the Asom Quarry coal mine. They started work at 6 AM, but within two hours, water from a nearby abandoned coal mine flooded the area, trapping the miners.

By 8 AM, 300 feet below the surface, the miners found themselves surrounded by water and unable to escape. While some managed to survive and escape, 9 workers were trapped inside.

The rescue operation began and today at around 9 am the first team of NDRF, Army divers entered the mine after 24 hours since the workers trapped.

According to some reports it also found that navy divers have also called.

The family members, along with the co-workers are praying and waiting for the safe returns.
