Some question arises regarding the application of the arms license policy in inter-state border regions. The Assam government has clarified that the policy to apply for arms license will not be enforced in border areas shared with Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland.

Responding to concerns, officials stated that Assam does not view its border regions as sensitive from a national security standpoint. Instead, the state maintains that inter-state border issues should be addressed through dialogue, mutual trust and cooperation between neighboring states.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Stated, “We want to clarify, Assam always believes that interstate border problem is such a matter, which can only be solved through mutual understanding and trust and understanding should be the only way out. We never consider these areas sensitive from the threat of national security. So I want to make it clear that weapon license policy will not apply in the interstate border areas of Assam.”

Reaffirming this stance, the government clarified that the new arms license regulations policy would not be applied in Assam’s interstate border areas. Which signaling a continued commitment to peaceful resolutions and regional harmony.

This move is seen as a step toward fostering better coordination and easing tensions between Assam and its neighboring northeastern states.
