In late night on Sunday, Assam Forest department arrested a police constable of Arunachal Pradesh for illegal poaching in Tikupani Reserved Forest.
Tikupani Reserved Forest is a protected area that situated under Jorhat forest division along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
The accused, identified as Wangdem Chikcha, police constable with the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Changlang district and a resident of Upper Kulam village in Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh.
He was caught red-handed during a raid led by forest official Pramod Phukan, acting on a tip-off about illegal activities in the area.
Two of them managed to escape from the area, which involved prompt investigation to caught the escape one.
The incident has raised concerned about the safety of the area and raised a question about the involvement of law official in criminal activities. Particularly in ecological sensitive area.
Officials emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to protect these forest. Forest authorities have assured a thorough investigation and are working to locate the remaining suspects.
