Andhra Pradesh Pharma Unit explosion: A massive explosion took place at a multinational pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, August 21, where 17 workers died and more than 40 injured.
According to State labour minister Vasamsetty Subhash, the explosion took place at lunch time at around 2.15 pm, which trigged fire at Escientia Advanced Sciences Private Limited in Atchutapuram SEZ in Rambilli mandal of Anakapalle district. The injured has taken to the NTR hospital for treatment.
The district collector said, โThe incident happened not because of a reactor blast.โ Many officials suspected that it was an electrical fire. About 380 employees worked in the company in two shifts.
Secretary Yuvaraj said the initial investigation revealed that a vapor leak triggered chemical reactions, leading to the explosion.
The state government has ordered an investigation into the incident. Officials are reviewing security camera footage and interviewing the injured to determine if human error caused the blast.
Among the 17 injured employees 10 identified, assistant general manager V Sanyasi Naidu (50), laboratory in-charge Rami Reddy (35), chemist N Harika (22), production operator Partha Sarathy (23), plant helper Y Chinna Rao (25), P Rajasekhar (22), plant operators K Mohan (20), Ganesh, H Prashant and M Narayana Rao.
CM N Chandrababu Naidu will visit the Andhra Pradesh Pharma Unit explosion site on Thursday means today and also will meet the injured employees.
The NDRF and SDRF teams had deployed to carry out the rescue operations. Six fire tenders has deployed at the site immediately.
