Air India has cancelled the Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Flight AI2455 due to suspected bird hit on its inbound journey from the national capital on June 22, Sunday.
According to official reports, the cancellation was triggered after flight AI2454 from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram encountered a suspected bird strike upon landing. While the aircraft landed safely, it was taken for extended engineering checks, leading to the cancellation of the return flight.
In an official statement, an Air India spokesperson said, “Air India regrets to inform that flight AI2455, from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi, is cancelled due to extended engineering checks after a suspected bird hit was detected. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and are making every effort to minimise the disruption.”
Passengers affected by the cancellation were offered complimentary rescheduling, full refunds, and accommodation. The airline also assured that alternate travel arrangements to Delhi are being arranged for the stranded passengers.
Air India emphasized that passenger safety remains its top priority. The airline further noted that it has voluntarily implemented enhanced pre-flight safety checks and a temporary reduction in services to maintain operational safety and reliability.
“Despite all proactive measures, external factors such as air traffic congestion, bad weather, and other operational challenges may lead to delays or cancellations. We try to inform passengers in advance, but some disruptions are unavoidable,” the statement added.
This incident comes shortly after AirIndia CEO Campbell Wilson reassured passengers that the airline’s Boeing 787 fleet remains safe following comprehensive checks in the aftermath of the AI171 tragedy.
Air India and AirIndia Express currently operate over 1,100 flights daily, serving more than 150,000 passengers.
