A robbery incident took place at a house of Senior Journalist Uttam Kumar Shee, news editor of Samayik Prasanga newspaper at Ashran Road, Silchar, when he was out of station.
According to reports, Journalist Uttam Kumar Shee went to Guwahati on Saturday for his son’s examination but was unable to return early due to lack of train services on Sunday. He boarded a train on Monday and reached Silchar early Tuesday morning. Upon returning home, he discovered that his house had been robbed.
The robbers reportedly broke a window and cut through the iron grill to enter the house. They stole all the gold ornaments belonging to Shee’s wife, valued at approximately ₹6 lakh.
By expressing sorrow Uttam Kumar Shee stated, “Those were my wife’s ornaments that she had saved and collected since our marriage. Now, everything is gone.”
A complaint has been filed at the National Highway Patrol Post, and the police have launched an investigation to arrest the robbers.
