In a major security lapse just days before 79th Independence Day, seven Delhi police have suspended after they failed to detect dummy explosive during a routine security check up at the Red Fort.
The suspended staff, including constables and head constables. They were posted at the iconic monument during the mock exercise conducted by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Saturday.
The drill was part of regular pre-Independence Day security preparations.
As per report, officers from the Special Cell entered the Red Fort disguised as civilians, carrying a dummy bomb that successfully bypassed the on-duty security checks. The failure to detect the device led to the immediate suspension of the seven personnel involved, citing gross negligence.
We know that every year Prime Minister hoists the national flag and addresses the nation on August 15 in Red Fort, it is classified as a high-security zone. As part of tightened vigilance this year, daily drills and multiple layers of surveillance enforced to prevent any security breach.
Security around the Red Fort has been intensified, with a detailed plan that includes a population census of nearby residents, installation of advanced vehicle scanners, and deployment of AI-powered surveillance systems. For the first time, five types of AI-enabled cameras—including headcount monitors and suspicious object detectors—will used to bolster crowd management and threat detection.
In a separate incident on Monday, Delhi Police detained five Bangladeshi nationals who allegedly tried to illegally enter the Red Fort premises. The individuals, aged between 20 and 25, were reportedly working as laborers in Delhi. Police recovered identity documents believed to be of Bangladeshi origin. A full investigation is underway to verify their identities and determine their intentions.
