A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 hit Kyushu Island in southern Japan on Thursday, afternoon. Earlier, the Japanese public broadcaster NHK had reported the quake’s preliminary magnitude as 6.9.
Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a Tsunami advisory for Kyushuโs east and southern coast and the southern coast of Shikoku.
According to Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.1 and was centered off the eastern coast of Japanโs Southern main island of Kyushu at a depth of about 30 kilometers.
The earthquake took place at around 16:43 JST as per local time of Japan.
In response to the tremor, a Tsunami advisory issued predicting waves of upto 1meter along the Kyushuโs east and southern coast and the southern coast of Shikoku.

The Japanese government also set up a special task fore in response to earthquake. There were no reports of damage.
Japan is one of the worldโs most earthquake prone areas as part of the Pacific โring of firesโ. The country Japan, home to about 125 million people, experiences around 1,500 earthquakes each year.
In the year of 2011 the magnitude of 9.0 earthquake hit the Japanโs northeastern coast and subsequent tsunami, in which nearly 20,000 people killed.
This year on 1st January 7.6 magnitude of earthquake hits Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto Peninsula where at least 260 people died.
