On Tuesday morning, at least 5 coaches of a Puducherry bound passenger train derailed near Villupuram railway station, Tamil Nadu. The loco pilot’s quick action to stop the train prevented a major accident.
Railway staff said all passengers were safely taken off the train, and no injuries were reported, according to news agency PTI. They added that the cause of the derailment will be known after an inquiry is completed.
The railway staff also stated that the railway engineers immediately rushed to the site and active repair work on derailed train is underway.

While authorities investigate the incident, railway staff cleared the route to allow other trains to pass.
The MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train, which departed Villupuram at 5:25 am, derailed while crossing a curve. The loco pilot acted quickly to stop the train. A MEMU train is a short-distance train covering about 38 kilometers.
The Villupuram Railway Police, Tamil Nadu have started a detailed inquiry into the incident.
Just last week, a goods train derailed near Srinavaspuram in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district. It was heading to the Vishnupuram Rashi Cement Factory to load cement. After the incident, trains on the Guntur-Hyderabad route were diverted through Vijayawada.
