Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 4 villages of Cachar district declared as Child Marriage Free on December 30, 2024.
He announced this through social media. He stated, โAssam has taken a firm stance against child marriage. We are putting the last nail in the coffin of this social evil across the State. Leading by example, 4 villages in Cachar have been declared Child Marriage Free recently ensuring a bright future for our girls.โ
The name of the villages are: 1. Rukni Part IV, Palonghat Development Block, 2. Bhairabpur Part I, Kalain Development Block, 3. Rosekandy Grant I, Tapang Development Block and 4. Rosekandy Grant II, Tapang Development Block.
To stop child marriage in Assam, the government has implemented several initiatives including Nijut Moina Scheme and the Assam Compulsory Registration of Muslim marriages and Divorces Act, 2024.
Assam Government also launch crack down on Child Marriages. Last year 5,348 cases has been registered and 5,842 people arrested in three special drives. In 2024, this month a total of 431 person has arrested and 345 case registered under child marriage.
