Tension escalated at Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district over Mosque on Sunday morning, 3 died in this violence.
The divisional commissioner added “Three persons namely Naeem, Bilal and Niman died during the clash. He said 20 to 22 cops including officials (CO Sambhal, PRO to SP Sambhal, one SDM) sustained injuries while other injured received injuries of splinters. Meanwhile, 15 persons have been detained.”
The tension erupts, when a survey team arrived at the Shahi Jama Masjid for a survey, which was ordered by a court based on complaint alleging that a temple was demolished by the Mughals to construct the mosque.
To opposed the survey hundreds of protesters, gathered near the Shahi Jama Masjid and threw stones at the survey team, which was accompanied by heavy police deployment. A group of mob also damaged vehicles and set fire.
To Control the situation police used tear gas shells and minor force to disperse the crowd.
Sambhal district has been tensed for few days after the mosque was surveyed last Tuesday, and Today is the second day of survey. The survey was based on local court order following a petition that claimed that a Harihar temple stood at the site.

The survey was initiated after Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain filed a complaint stating that the mosque was originally a temple.
Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi said, “Some miscreants came out of the crowd gathered near the site and pelted stones at the police team. The police used minor force and tear gas to bring the situation under control.”
3 people died in Sambhal Mosque Survey Violence
Three persons namely Naeem, Bilal and Niman died during the clash. Meanwhile, 15 persons have been detained.
While it is alleged that the victims were shot, the police stated that the exact cause of death will only be determined after the autopsy.
“Some people, including two women, were arrested. Women were throwing stones from the roof. So far, three people have died in Sambhal,” Kumar said.
Mosque Survey Completed
Despite the violence, the Advocate Commission completed the survey, and the entire process was video graphed and photographed, confirmed Sambhal District Magistrate Rajender Pensiyia. The Commission will present its report to the court on November 29.
DGP Prashant Kumar said, “A survey is being conducted in Sambhal on the orders of the court. Some anti-social elements have pelted stones. Police and senior officers are present on the spot. The situation is under control, the police will identify the stone pelters and take appropriate legal action.”
