A henieous and shocking incident took place in Sarupeta in Bajali district, Assam. A 19-year-old Monika Barman was allegedly raped, murdered and then hanged by her former lover, Arif Ahmed, who attempted to disguise the brutal crime as a suicide.
Police sources state that the accused, Arif Ahmed, previously was in a relationship with Monika. However, he unable to cope with her moving on and entering a new relationship, Arif reportedly became jealousy. Driven by jealousy and rage, he began blackmailing Monika using intimate photos of their.
Monika’s family lining as Indian citizens near Arif’s residence for over 15 years and the both knew each other well.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours, around 4:00 AM, when Arif allegedly forced Monika out of her home using threats and intimidation. After a heated argument, Arif sexually assaulted her and then strangled her to death.
To mislead the investigation, the accused hanged Monika’s lifeless body from a ceiling fan, attempting to stage the crime as a case of suicide.
When the Bajali police, began investigation they closely examining the scene and found inconsistencies that did not align with a suicide. A detailed forensic and circumstantial investigation revealed the true nature of the crime. The body showed clear signs of assault, and post-mortem reports confirmed rape and manual strangulation.
Arif Ahmed was immediately taken into custody and is now facing charges under rape, murder and sections related to criminal conspiracy and evidence tampering.
