The 14-years-old who admitted at the Kozhikode government medical college, Kerala and tested positive for Nipah Virus infection has died on Sunday morning. The boy tested positive on Saturday.
According to health department, he had developed fever 10 days ago and had been ventilator support since Friday.
On Saturday NIV-Pune confirmed that the boy had Nipah Virus.
The boy was from Pandikkad, Kerala tested who tested positive for Nipah Virus. It had said that the boy deployed viral fever on July 10, he sought treatment at a private clinic on July 12 and consulted to private hospital in Pandikkad on July 13.
He then admitted to same hospital on July 15 and later transferred to Perinathalmanna and subsequently to a private hospital in Kozhikode on Friday. On Saturday he then sifted to the Kozhikode government medical college.
Health Minister Veena George said in Malappuram that the boy who was under ventilator support suffered massive cardiac arrest at 10:50 am, and died at 11:30 am.
Health Department declared an alert in Malapurram. People were advised to wear mask and a lockdown declared in selected areas under Pandikkad panchayat, the village where the boy lived.
According to authorities as many as 214 people had contacts of the boy. Among them 63 has been classified as high-risk contact. The minister also said that the samples from all the high risk contact would be tested.
The close relatives of the boy, including father, mother and uncle is under observation. While four other high-risk contacts have been admitted to the government hospital.
What is Nipah Virus?
A zoonotic virus that can cause severe respiratory and neurological illnesses in humans is known as Nipah virus. It is primarily transmitted from fruit bats (flying foxes) to humans. And also often through intermediate hosts like pigs.
WHO said that there is no specipic medicine or vaccine are available for the treatent of this virus.
Nipah Virus Symptoms
According to experts the virus can spread not only from animals to humans but also from one infected person to another.
Some Symptoms of the virus are found they are
Fever: Fever is often one of the earliest and most common symptoms of Nipah virus infection.
Headache: Headaches can be severe and persistent.
Dizziness, Nausea and Vomiting, Cough and many others
If these symptoms persist more than 1 to 2 weeks individuals are advised to seek medical attention.
