Flood Aftermath Turns Deadly as 10 years old boy drowned in Bualjur, Sonai, Cachar

Following days of intense rainfall across Barak Valley, many low-lying areas in Cachar district remain waterlogged despite the subsiding water levels. In Bualjur, one such stagnant pool became the site of this tragedy. Tanij, the son of Haidar Ali Laskar, had stepped out around noon to play with friends near their residence.
While playing near the flood-affected zone, Tanij reportedly slipped and fell into a pool of stagnant water. His friends, witnessing the incident began shouting for help. Local people responding quickly, rushed to the spot and managed to pull him from the water. Immediate efforts were made to revive him, including traditional methods of pressing his chest and abdomen to expel water. Unfortunately, despite the community’s best efforts, Tanij could not be saved.
Police Investigation and Post-Mortem Underway
The Rangirkhari Police were alerted and arrived on the scene to carry out a preliminary investigation. The child’s body was then sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination. Authorities have confirmed that the body will be returned to the grieving family on Tuesday morning, following official procedures.
