In a major through, Sribhumi police arrested 10 suspects and detained 5 buses on Wednesday in connection of Sribhumi woman assault case inside a moving bus.
The attempt assault took place took place on Tuesday evening, where three men allegedly assault a woman inside an empty bus which was travelling Badarpur to Sribhumi.
Following the incident, Hindu Raksh Dal stage a protest outside the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) office on April 1, and also on April 2 demanding of the arrest of the accused. They blocked bus service.
Police than launched investigation and arrest 10 suspects.
According to police sources, CCTV footage and technical analysis helped identify possible buses involved in the crime. While only one bus is suspected to be directly linked, police have taken five buses into custody to pinpoint the exact location and identify all suspects. Drivers and conductors are currently being questioned as part of the investigation.
Police have assured that the real accused will be arrested soon as per legal procedures. The incident has sparked public anger, with calls for stricter laws and better safety measures for women in public transport. Activists are urging the government to implement stricter monitoring, CCTV surveillance, and security personnel on buses to prevent such crimes in the future.
