In a fresh development in the Zubeen Garg death case, accused Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta were on Friday remanded to judicial custody after completing 14 days in CID custody. The two were first produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court and underwent routine medical examinations under tight security at both the CID office and the court premises.
As of now, it remains unclear which jail the duo has been sent to.
These arrests are part of a widening investigation that has already seen seven individuals detained so far. Among them, five accused — including Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen’s cousin Sandeepan Garg, and two of his personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya — are currently lodged in Baksa Jail.
Police sources revealed that investigators may seek further custody for the two PSOs and Sandeepan Garg, while any extension of detention for the remaining accused would require judicial approval.
The transfer of the latest accused took place amid heightened security measures, following earlier unrest in Baksa, where supporters of Zubeen Garg clashed with police while demanding justice. Authorities ensured that today’s proceedings were carried out peacefully and without incident.
The case continues to grip public attention across Assam, with citizens and fans alike calling for a transparent, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the mysterious death of Zubeen Garg.
