Arunachal Pradesh Police on July 5, arrested two individual who are involved in extortion activities linked to ULFA-I in Namsai district. They arrested the ULFA-I individual from the area of Marwa under Chongkham circle, Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The individuals are arrested by the police when they demanded an amount of Rs. 15 lakhs from shopkeeper under the banner of ULFA.
This two were arrested by the police while trying to escape after extorting an advance of sum of Rs 95,500 from the victim. The police seized extorted cash of Rs 95,500 from their possession. They also seized two dummy AK rifles, one 9 mm pistol, one keypad ACE model mobile, two pulsar 125cc motor bike.
The arrested individual identified as Chanchal Moran, who also known as Rudra Moran and Nirmal Moran. They both are residents of Kakupathar, Tinsukia District.
On July 3, the Wakro Police received a written complaint from a shopkeeper. She reported that on the late evening of May 31, three armed individuals entered her shop and demanded fifteen lakhs rupees as ransom. They instructed her to bring the money to Namsai bridge. Later that day, the miscreants called again, reminding her of their demand and threatening serious consequences if she didn’t comply. As a result, Wakro Police Station filed a case under the Arms Act 1959.
The extortionists used threats of violence to frighten the victim. They were arrested after the police received information that they were on their way to collect the ransom.
