In the quiet morning of December 2nd, at approximately 7:30 am, Ainacherra Stone Quarry in Joypur, Cachar District, Assam, rocked by the reverberation of two gunshots. The abrupt disturbance sent waves of panic among the quarry workers in the area. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that a group of armed militants forcefully abducted three individuals at gunpoint, plunging the quarry into chaos.

The armed perpetrators led the workers into the nearby forest, creating a tense and alarming situation.

Victims Identified: JCB and Tipper Drivers in Distress

The abducted persons identified as Raju Tanti, a JCB Driver from Aina Cherra. Amit Urang, also a JCB Driver from Madhura Nagar; and Biswa Dhar, a Tipper Driver from Udharbond. The incident has left the workers in a state of trauma and uncertainty.

Search and Rescue Operation Initiated Three person abducted area

Upon learning of the situation, Cachar Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, rushed to the site. The district police from both Cachar and Dima Hasao collaborated in a joint effort to conduct a thorough search and rescue operation. The CRPF team has also joined forces in this critical mission.

Meeting with Quarry Operators: Local Business Involvement

During Superintendent Numal Mahatta’s visit to Udarbondh Police. He also met with local businessmen N Burman and Shankar, the operators of the Ainacherra stone quarry in Joypur. The meeting aimed to gather information and insights into the incident.

Reports have surfaced, suggesting that such abductions may be linked to militants’ dissatisfaction with quarry owners not meeting their financial demands. The quarry industry is grappling with the challenges posed by militants resorting to extreme measures to assert their demands.

SP Dima Hasao confirmed the situation and stated that a collaborative operation, involving both districts’ police and Assam Rifles, has been deployed. The ongoing rescue operation is dedicated to securing the abducted workers and restoring peace to the troubled quarry.
