A tension situation erupted in Silchar Medical College and Hospital when the dead of the 10 Kuki Youth released after post mortem from hospital and set to transferred Manipur on Saturday. The Kuki and Hmar Communities protestor escalated the situation. Manipur government claimed that the deceased suspected Kuki militants.
According to reports, the agitated crowd allegedly threw stones at Assam police, leading the police to use a lathi charge to bring the situation under control. Lastly SP Numal Mahatta went to Silchar Medical College and Hospital took the situation under control.
On Monday, 10 Kuki youth killed in police firing in Jiribam, Manipur. This militantโs dead body transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsies. But the delay in handing over the bodies to families sparked the widespread.
The tribal residents of Cachar, including the families of the deceased, repeatedly gathered outside the college, demanding the release of the bodies. Today, Manipur Government has arranged to transport the dead bodies. Government arrange helicopter to transfer the body from Masimpur to Manipur.
Members of the Hmar Association protesting outside the Anatomy department demanded that the bodies transported by road instead of by air.
This demand increased tensions, forcing Cachar police to deploy more personnel and use restrained force. Protesters then demanded a written assurance that the bodies would not be flown to Imphal but instead taken to Churchandpur town in Manipur.
Cachar SP Numal Mahatta clarified that he could not provide any written assurance as the matter was under the jurisdiction of Manipur Police and the Home Ministry.
Eventually, a female member of the Hmar Association confirmed that Thomas, the Additional SP from Jiribam, provided written assurance that the bodies would flown to Churchandpur and that neither Manipur Police nor CRPF personnel would be on the helicopter. Following this assurance, the bodies placed in coffins for transport.
