Sribhumi Youth Goes Missing in Barak River during Baruni Holy dip

A Youth from Sribhumi (Formerly known as Karimganj) went missing from Baruni Mela at Siddheshwar Shiv Temple ghat in Badarpur, Assam during holy dip in Barak River on March 27.

According to reports, the youth identified as Biswajit Acharya, a resident of Shyama Prasad Road in Sribhumi. He went missing while taking holy dip along with five friends in Barak River during the Baruni Mela. The witnessed reports state that Biswajit swept away by strong currents while performing holy dip.

Despite immediate effort of rescue the youth went missing. The youth was newly married.

The SDRF team along with locals immediately launched search operation but they fail to rescue as well as they didn’t found him.

The rescue team tirelessly worked, but several hours passed and the didn’t find him. The family, friend of the youth desperately waiting for updates.

Baruni Mela took place every year at the Siddheshwar Shiv Temple Ghat in Badarpur, during Madhukrishna  Trayodashi tithi, also known as Baruni. This year it falls on March 27, 2025.

The main attraction is the Siddheshwar Shiv Temple, also known as Kapilashram, located near Badarpur Ghat.
