A 24-year-old youth, identified as Rajat Das—also known as Manna—from Kanakpur Part-II in Silchar, has been arrested on charges of allegedly blackmailing and repeatedly raping a homemaker from his locality.
According to the FIR, the accused had reportedly been following the woman for several days with ill intent. One day, when she was alone, Rajat allegedly overpowered her and secretly recorded intimate photos on his mobile phone. Police officials said the woman informed investigators that Rajat later used these photos to blackmail her and continued to assault her over the next several days.
When the woman refused his further advances, he allegedly threatened to leak the photos and forced her to comply. After enduring the situation for a long time, the homemaker finally approached the police and filed a formal complaint.
Following her statement, a case was registered, and Rajat was arrested on Saturday, November 15. He was produced before the court the next day, and police were granted custody for interrogation. He has since been remanded to jail.
Meanwhile, a close associate of Rajat has claimed that the allegations are “completely false,” stating that Rajat had known the woman’s family for years and that the issue may have arisen from a recent personal dispute.
