In a major breakthrough, police in Silchar have arrested a B-Tech graduate accused in a massive financial fraud case. The Silchar scam involves cheating investors of nearly Rs 15 crore to Rs 20 crore through false promises of high returns.

The accused, Jaydeep Dutta (38), hails from Srikona in Cachar district. According to police, he operated a private firm named Iconic Finance Solution. He claimed that he would invest money in the stock market. Moreover, he promised investors monthly returns of up to 15 per cent.

How the Fraud Grew Over Time

Initially, the scheme appeared genuine. Some investors received regular payouts. As a result, trust increased quickly. Soon, more people from Cachar and nearby areas invested large amounts.

However, the situation changed later. After collecting huge funds, the accused allegedly went missing along with his family. This raised suspicion among investors. Gradually, complaints started coming in.

After remaining absconding for nearly one and a half years, Jaydeep was finally caught. Interestingly, some victims spotted him at Katakhal Railway Station. They immediately alerted authorities and handed him over to the police.

So far, at least 29 complaints have been registered at the Tarapur Police Outpost. Meanwhile, police believe that more victims may come forward.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Rajat Pal, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. He also stated that more people could be involved in the Silchar scam. At present, the accused is in police custody for further questioning.

This case once again highlights the risk of high-return investment schemes. Therefore, authorities have urged people to verify such offers before investing.
