The Assam State Election Commission has officially released the schedule for the preparation and publication of electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation elections. After a decade Silchar municipal election will take place.
The election which is expected to be held in September 2025, which come after 10 years gap of Previous Silchar Municipal Election.
As per Notification No. SEC.06/2025/24 dated May 14, 2025, the process will conducted ward-wise across 42 wards of the newly constituted Silchar Municipal Corporation.

The Commission clarified that the electoral roll preparation will be conducted under Rules 5 to 10 of the Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022, and will be based on the Assembly Electoral Roll with the eligibility date set as January 1, 2025.
Additionally, the appointment of Registration Officers for each ward of the Silchar Municipal Corporation was previously notified through Notification No. SEC.83/2022/74 dated December 23, 2024.
A separate Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the preparation of the electoral rolls is also being issued, as stated by Gitartha Baruah, ACS, Secretary of the Assam State Election Commission.
This development marks a significant step forward in organizing the first-ever municipal election for the newly formed Silchar Municipal Corporation.
The Governor of Assam approved the formation of the Silchar Municipal Corporation on 28th November 2024. It was constituted with 42 wards under the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.
