Silchar is currently facing a flood-like situation due to continuous rainfall over the past four days. Several areas in the town, including National Highway Point, Kalibari Char, New Market, Phatak Bazar, Sonai Road, and Link Road, are severely affected by waterlogging.
Due to the poor drainage system in many parts of Silchar, drain water has overflowed onto the roads and entered numerous homes, creating major disruptions in daily life. Residents in low-lying areas such as Bisputi, Ashram Road, Dev Para, and others are experiencing significant hardship as floodwaters have inundated homes and streets.
On May 31 and June 1, the situation was particularly dire, especially in areas like National Highway Point, Link Road, and Sonai Road, where water levels rose above the knees. Locals struggled to move around as roads remained submerged for hours.
However, on June 2, conditions have slightly improved compared to the previous two days, though several areas are still waterlogged.
In response to the situation, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to visit Silchar on June 3, 2025, to assess the flood impact and oversee relief efforts. Silchar
