In a disturbing incident from the No-Basti area of Assam’s Kaliabor, a local grocery shopkeeper arrested on May 25 for allegedly harassing a 14-year-old minor girl inside his store.
The accused, identified as Hiren Banik, arrested by police from the Bagori Outpost, Kaliabor which falls under the jurisdiction of Jakhalabandha Police Station. Police arrested the accused swiftly after authorities received a formal complaint regarding the incident.
According to reports, Banik — who is married — allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior with the minor while she was inside his shop
Police have registered a case (No. 52/25) against Banik under Sections 74 and 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 8 of the POCSO Act, which deals with sexual offenses against children.
Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway, reiterating their zero-tolerance approach to crimes against children.
