Former Zimbabwe Cricketer Andy Flower Takes Over as RCB Head Coach
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced the appointment of Andy Flower as their head coach for the upcoming IPL 2023 season. The former Zimbabwe cricketer will be replacing Sanjay Bangar, who served as the head coach of the team in the previous season.
Andy Flower Journey from Lucknow to Bengaluru
Andy Flower finds himself in Bengaluru after a successful stint with the Lucknow Super Giants over the last two years. He joined the team in their debut season in 2022 and worked closely with mentor Gautam Gambhir and captain KL Rahul, leading them to the playoffs in both seasons. However, the franchise later parted ways with him in July and brought in Justin Langer as their head coach.
RCB Bids Farewell to Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar
Along with the new appointment, RCB has also confirmed the departure of Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar. Hesson, who led the team management since 2019, helped RCB reach three successive playoffs, narrowly missing out on the top 4 spot in IPL 2023.
Andy Flower’s Impressive Coaching Career
Andy Flower coaching career is truly impressive with experience working with various T20 teams worldwide. In 2020, he was the head coach for Multan Sultans and St Lucia Zouks and an assistant coach for Punjab Kings. The following year he took over as head coach for Lucknow Super Giants and Gulf Giants in the International League T20.
Flower’s Success Stories
During his coaching tenure, Flower led the Multan Sultans to their first-ever playoffs in the 2020 season and guided the Zouks to their first-ever finals appearance in the Caribbean Premier League.

Before venturing into coaching, Andy Flower had a remarkable international cricketing career, scoring over 10,000 runs in 63 Tests and 213 ODIs for Zimbabwe.
