Pakistan Army troops openly fire at some place along with Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday appearing to violate the ceasefire agreement in place since 2021. In response of fire Indian Army launched a swift and effective counterattack, according to sources familiar with the developments.

This fresh attack came after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir where 26 tourist killed by terrorist. “There were incidents of small arms firing at some places on the Line of Control initiated by Pakistan,” news agency PTI quoted a source as saying, adding that “the firing was effectively responded to.”

The firing incident come just hours after before Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi’s scheduled visit to Srinagar and Udhampur. During his visit, he expected to meet with top Army commanders and officials from other security agencies to assess the current security scenario and review Pakistan’s recent ceasefire violations.

India Hits Back Hard

Following the terror attack, India has taken strong decision against Pakistan. India has taken five main decisions against Pakistan over its alleged support for cross-border terrorism.

At a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 — a watershed decision in bilateral relations.

India also shut the integrated Attari Check Post, and also gave 7 days to return Pakistan who came via this route. India has declared multiple officials from the Pakistani High Commission as persona non grata and ordered them to leave the country within seven days. In a further crackdown, the government has also revoked all visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES), giving Pakistani nationals just 48 hours to depart from Indian territory.

Pakistan Warns of ‘Act of War’

In response of the decision Pakistan strongly rejected India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and warned them that any effort of blocking or divert flow of the rivers would be considered as act of war.

The Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank, governs the water-sharing of the Indus river system between the two countries. The eastern rivers — Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej — are allocated to India, while the western rivers — Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab — largely serve Pakistan. Any disruption could have far-reaching consequences for both nations’ water security.
