Over 33 people died After Drinking Liquor in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu

Over 33 people died in Kallakuruchi district of Tamil Nadu after consuming liquor which was mixed with methanol on Tuesday night. This could rise the toll of death.

As per reports on 19 June nine people died including a woman after consuming this liquor. Only a day after the death toll rises to 33 people. Three of the dead person was from neighbouring Salem district of Tamil Nadu.

Death toll rises to 34. Tamil Nadu CM announced Rs.10 Lakh each for the family of the deceased and Ra. 50,000 for the people under treatment.

Over 60 other people are going under treatment. But official have not confirmed how many are under treatment. Among them 17 people are undergoing treatment to the Jawarharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) in Puducherry, eight to Government Mohan Kumarmangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem.

Chief Minister MK Stalin transferred the District Collector Sraan Kumar Jatavatha and suspend SP Samay Singh Meena.

He also ordered CB-CID (Crime Branch- Crime Investigation Department) to investigate about the incident which cause major death.

According to sources, nearly 70 of the men were mostly daily wage labourers and load men from Karunapuram colony of Kallikurichi whoc consumed the mixed liquor that sold in packet.

A senior government official said that preliminary investigation reveled that those who are admitted affected due to methanol poisoning. Pocket liquor sold in the market illegally.

The police arrested three people in connection of the illegal liquor sale and manufactured. This all labourers has consumed the liquor on 18, June and started experience symptom like loss of breath, blurred vision and gassiness and repeated bouts of diarrhoea which leads to go to hospital.

Many of the victims went the hospital for treatment when this news spread, large number started to gather on the hospital in the evening times.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sent Highways Minister E.V. Velu and Health Minister Ma. Subramanian to Kallakurichi to arrange treatment for 26 people who drank fake liquor. The police arrested Govindaraj, also known as Kannukutty, who sold the liquor. A forensic test showed that the liquor contained methanol. The authorities seized about 200 litres of the brew from him, according to an official statement.

Leader of the opposition party AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami and state sports minister Udhayanidhi Stalin are skipping the assembly session. They are heading to meet the deceased.
